Of course you can. A small 4 cycle engine uses the exact same oil as used in any car.
Probably- it is the alternator of generator that makes the electricity. It is usually connected by a belt to the engine, so that when the engine turns it turns and when it turns, it generates electricity.
A motor is an engine or a machine that uses gas, electric or other energy source for it to function and create motion. A generator is also an engine, but it converts an energy source into electricity.
Technically nothing. They are both internal combustion engines. One is driving a transmission and a vehicle and the other is driving a generator. A generator is used to to produce DC current, that is driven by an electrical AC motor, Hench the term Motor-Generator applies. An engine uses it's own source of fuel, Gasoline, for it's power source. Never call a ENGINE a MOTOR..........
I have a generator that has a ford engine in it i want to find out what size of engine it is
This depends on many factors, such as the size of the generator engine, for example. It is basically like the starter motor on a car engine.
You can't use a motor to power a generator and use the output of that generator to power the motor. Some energy will be lost at each step making the hookup pointless. But you can use a combustion engine to power an electric generator and use that electricity to power auxillary systems around the engine.
The rotor, the stator and the voltage regulator are three main components of a generator. If you are talking about a motor generator set then of course the other main component would be the engine to drive the generator.
if your talking about a generator its not the hp of the engine its the size, rpm, and gearing of the generator motor

If it is a 4-cycle engine you definitely need motor oil. If its a 2-cycle engine then the oil is mixed with the gas. If its a reel mower then no oil is needed except for external lubrication. Depending on the engine manufacturer the 4-cycle engines will require either SAE30 or 10w30 motor oil.
You can not use 4-cycle oil in a 2-cycle engine because the four cycle oil will not mix it is not designed to.Two cycle oil is designed to mix with fule to lube the two cycle parts in your motor.
If it is a 2 cycle engine, no, you must use 2 cycle oil. If it is a 4 cycle then use exactly what the manufacture recommends.
