To change the fuel pump in a 1989 Mercury Tracer, first ensure the vehicle is safely elevated and disconnect the battery. Remove the fuel tank by unbolting it from its supports and disconnecting the fuel lines and electrical connections. Once the tank is out, access the fuel pump, typically located inside the tank, and replace it with the new pump. Reassemble everything, reconnect the battery, and check for leaks before starting the engine.
