The basic difference between a two stroke and 4 stroke engine are

1. A 2 stroke engine is an internal combustion engine that performs a cycle in

one revolution of the crank shaft(an up stroke and a down stroke of the

piston)as compared o twice that of a 4 stroke engine)

this happens because a 2 stroke utilises its beginning of the compression stroke and end of the combustion stroke to perform simultaneously the intake and exhaust(scavenging) however a 4 stroke has dedicated intake and exhaust valves for this purpose.

2. Due to the above point there comes several basic difference between their working and construction they are

  • since a 2stroke fires 2 times the 4stroke in same period of time hence it naturally have more power to weight ratio.
  • emissions are more in case of a 2 stroke naturally because it has ports whichare not as efficient as valves in 4stroke engines but advancement in this field has made them both equally efficient.
  • 2 stroke engine can be used in any orientation as this is particularly important in application like chain saw hwever for 4 stroke its not possible until you do some modification which makes the design even more complex
  • 2 stroke engine don't last long since they are more open to wear and tear.
  • Two-stroke engines do not use fuel efficiently,
  • Two-stroke engines produce a lot of pollution

When was the four stroke petrol engine was invented?

The 4 stroke or 4 cycle engine was invented in 1876 Nicholas Otto in Germany. This is the earliest 4 stroke and is commonly called the Otto cycle engine. The Diesel 4 stoke was invented in 1893 by Rudolph Diesel in Germany.

If speed of a two-stroke engine is N then what is the speed of a four-stroke engine?

It could be anything. The difference between the two is that in a two-stroke engine the piston goes back and forth (two strokes) for every ignition event (spark plug firing for a gas engine or fuel injection for a Diesel), while it goes back and forth twice (four strokes) for a four stroke engine.

In two stroke engine Crankshaft how many revolution takes place?

A two stroke engine has half the strokes of an otto (or four stroke) engine, therefore it takes two crankshaft roatations to complete a cycle on a four stroke engine and only one revolution in a two stroke engine. There are several types of two stroke engines, the different types have to do with how the receive the air/fuel mixture, also you have two stroke diesel engines.
