If you don't change anything on the A frame or steering arms, then it shouldn't be necessary. However if you have a few bucks spare it's not a bad idea.
Struts wear out on a car because they tend to rust. A person that does a lot of winter driving will probably have to replace struts in a car once while it is owned, if kept for a long time.
To replace the trunk struts on your Lexus SC300, first, ensure the trunk is supported to prevent it from falling. Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry off the retaining clips on each end of the struts. Once the clips are removed, detach the old struts from the mounting points and replace them with the new struts, ensuring they are securely attached. Finally, reattach the retaining clips to complete the installation.

You will need to remove the 2 bolts that connect from the strut to the knuckle. Then you will need to remove the ABS sending unit as well as the front brake hose. Once these components are removed, you can remove the strut. In order to remove the strut, you will need a special tool to compress the spring. Once the struts are removed, you can safely replace them with new struts.
It isn't hard at all aslong as you have patience and alittle know how. Be warned I highly suggest you take the struts once removed from the car to a service center to have them remove the strut from the springs!
If you don't have the right tools don't attempt to change your struts. Getting the struts of is, easy but you have to have a spring compressor once you get them off also you need a workbench with a vice to remove the spring. Very Dangerous without proper tools.
It sounds like it could be a bad strut. Push down quickly and firmly on the front of the vehicle, if the car bounces more than once or twice you may need to replace your struts.

To replace the rear struts on a 1991 Oldsmobile 98, start by safely lifting the rear of the vehicle and securing it on jack stands. Remove the rear wheels, then unbolt the lower strut mount and the upper strut bolts from the inside of the trunk. Once the old struts are removed, install the new struts by reversing the process, ensuring all bolts are torqued to the manufacturer's specifications before reattaching the wheels and lowering the vehicle. Always check for proper alignment and functionality after completing the installation.
