It would be recommended otherwise you will end up with some coolant in the crankcase which you don't want.
The problem with cylinder heads on ef-el Falcons around 18,000 kms is loss of coolant. Yet, there are?æno evident leaks. This is due to leaks are behind the exhaust manifold and can only be seen by removing the heat shield.?æ
To remove the cylinder heads from a Cadillac SRX with a 4.6L Northstar engine without removing the engine, first disconnect the battery and drain the coolant. Then, remove the intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, and any associated components, including the valve covers and timing cover. Carefully unbolt the cylinder heads, ensuring to follow a proper sequence to avoid warping. Finally, lift the heads off the engine block while ensuring all bolts and components are clear.
To remove and reinstall the cylinder heads on a 2002 Buick Rendezvous, first, disconnect the battery and drain the engine coolant. Remove the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, and any attached components, then unbolt the cylinder head using the specified torque sequence. Once the heads are removed, clean the mating surfaces, replace the head gaskets, and reinstall the heads using the correct torque specifications in the proper sequence. Finally, reassemble all components and refill the coolant before testing for leaks.
THE ONLY WAY TO TELL IF THE CYLINDER HEADS ARE BAD IS BY REMOVING AND INSPECTING THEM.(NO ONE IS THAT GOOD AS TO BE ABLE TO TELL WITH OUT LOOKING) THE NORMAL PROBLEMS THAT YOU GET THAT ARE CYLINDER HEAD RELATED ARE NOT ALWAYS DUE TO A BAD CYLINDER HEAD.
I replace the heads with first starting by draining the coolant then removing the exhaust as neccasary then the intake manifold and distributor then the valve rocker arms and pushrods then unbolting the heads.
The head gasket on a 2004 Kia Rio is replaced by draining the coolant, removing the intake manifold, and unbolting the cylinder heads. The head and gasket can then be removed and a new gasket put in place.

Coolant temp sensors are typically somewhere on the intake or on the cylinder heads. They have no more than 2 wires going to them, most of the time only one.
The coolant pump draws coolant from the radiator and circulates the coolant through coolant jackets in the engine cylinder block and the cylinder heads. The coolant is then directed back to the radiator. The system directs some coolant through hoses to the heater core in order to provide for defrost and passenger compartment heat. A surge tank connects to the cooling system. Pressurized coolant continuously flows through the surge tank and the process repeats
Cylinder heads can be bought in bulk from Sportflo in South Africa or try American Cylinder heads if based in the US. For other buyers try Bridge Cylinder Heads in Cheshire, UK.
Coolant enters the water pump from the lower radiator hose. The water pump pumps coolant into both sides of the engine block towards the rear of the block. Coolant then flows up into the cylinder heads and flows toward the front of the heads before crossing over into the intake manifold and up to the thermostat. Coolant then flows through the thermostat into the upper radiator hose back into the radiator.
The lifters are in the cylinder heads. The lifters are in the cylinder heads.
