1.6L ecotec is belt, In general, if it's a plastic housing on timing covers, it's belt, and if its metal, its chain. Chain timing typically requires oil feed to lubricate chain guides and tensioners and as such looks more integrated into the front engine cover. Belt type timing does not require oil feed to maintain tension on the belt, and as such, looks bolted to the front of the engine. again, these are just guidelines and a call to your local gm dealers parts department will verify on your particular car if it is belt or chain timing.
The interval on your timing belt is 100,000kms.
It has a timing chain.
never it should out last the engine
How to replace a 1985 Chev Suburban's timing chain
The 3.4 and 3.8 litre V6 engines in a 2000 Chevrolet Impala have a timing CHAIN
It must have a TIMING CHAIN because Gates ( they make timing belts etc . ) does not list a timing belt for the 2001 Chev Cavalier 2.2 L
NO there is not. The timing on that engine is computer controlled and it REQUIRES an engine scanner to set the timing. A timing light will not work.
Most of the time when the timing belt fails on these vehicles it damages the engine. With todays dealership prices it is cheaper just to replace the engine assembly than repair the existing.
Since this category is 305-350, I'll have to assume that YOUR engine is one of the two mentioned. The 1990 Chev 305 and 350 did not use a timing belt. They used a timing chain, and unless something really odd happened, you should never need to replace the timing chain until you rebuild the engine.
its a 350
The 1.6 liter , 4 cylinder has a timing BELT and the 2.0 liter 4 cylinder and the 2.5 liter V6 engines use a timing CHAIN
It must have a timing CHAIN because Gates ( they make timing belts etc. ) doesn't list a timing belt for the 2004 Chev Malibu 3.5 liter V6
Timing chain "jumped"? 1 or 2 teeth?
