check the brake fluid level in your master cylinder under the hood. The light comes on for two reasons, either the hand brake is on or your brake fluid level is low
i asked the question but have since found out the problem, it turned out to be a low fluid level in the brake master cylinder. i found out by sideways banging to the brake foot pedal which made the warning light flicker which led me to believe something was amiss under the bonnet and connected to the brake pedal is the master cylinder !! silly old me. now iv`e got to find out where the fluid is going if it does. one does live and learn !!. so whilst the warning light serves the purose of letting you know the handbrake is still on it also is telling you the brake fluid is low. my clio (19995) is an automatic.
There could be several causes, but a few that come to mind right now include: * The brake is not fully releasing. * The sensing switch is not properly adjusted. * The sensing switch is defective. I suspect that there could be a few other causes, but these are the most common.
