bad catalytic converter
If this is a standard shift transmission, some one may have put the incorrect trans fluid in to it. Drain and refill with correct fluid, check your drivers manual for correct trans fluid.
Your trans fluid could be low or your trans is on it's way out the door. Some cars, reverse is the first to go.Good luck.If the fluid is not low, drop the pan replace the filter and put a trans additive in when you fill it up after the trans service. The best additive is called trans-x.

If the trans has quit shifting, it is because the computer has detected a problem and set a code. Have the system checked for trouble codes.
harsh winter is really cold whilst normal weather is somehow cold and hot.
Very cold winters are typically referred to as harsh winters or severe winters. These winters can bring extreme cold temperatures, heavy snowfall, and harsh weather conditions.

Automatic trans. on Neons used to have problems with the solenoid packs sticking. Check to see if you have a transmission controller code. If it has a code for L/R solenoid stuck in L or R poistion, put a solenoid pack in it. It might just be that the trans needs to be overhauled.
this is a very easy question, look in your owners manual under capacities----if driven in very hot areas add a cooler to your tranny, if in cold climates forget it, will affect shift quality in cold areas--------coolers add 25% longer life to a stock transmission-----period!!!!!
Doesn't have one.
