i am a tech at a BMW dealer, and BMW does not allow us to do any trans work, only sensors inside the trans, and a valve body perhaps. the trans in you car is very touchy. your car if in good condition still is worth fixing, i would recommend taking it to the dealer, if you are sure it needs a trans, hopefully they will diagnosis correclty and quote you a trans, i would put a new trans in, ( it will actually be a remaned one) but still good since BMW rebuilds them.
