all tops from 1978 cj7 to 1995 yj fit
The 1983 Jeep CJ7 is equipped with a gas tank that has a capacity of approximately 15 gallons. This size is standard for this model, allowing for a reasonable driving range given its fuel efficiency. The tank design is integral to the vehicle's overall ruggedness and off-road capability.
You've got to drop the fuel tank, or cut an access opening in the body tub over the fuel tank inlet. Besides the sending unit, you will almost certainly need the lock ring that attaches it to the tank also. There is the distinct possiblity the rust in that area is so bad the tank will need to be replaced.
Practical answer is no
Typically the tank from AMC was 15 gallons.
It should be an easy fit
To install the fuel pump on a 1976 Jeep CJ7, first, disconnect the battery and drain fuel from the system. Remove the old fuel pump by unbolting it from the engine block and disconnecting the fuel lines. Install the new pump, ensuring it aligns properly with the mounting holes, and then torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications, typically around 20-25 ft-lbs. Finally, reconnect the fuel lines and battery, and check for leaks before starting the engine.
Should be the 258 cid I6
15 gal from the factory, but an aftermarket 20, 21 or 24 gallon tank can be swapped in.
