The fuel pump and sending unit are inside the gas tank along with a fabric mesh filter. Make sure you run the vehicle until it is low on fuel, then remove the carpet in the cargo area to access the pump. You might have to drop the gas tank to access everything. I wouldn't assume the filter is your problem. The crankshaft timing sensor is a common part that causes intermittent engine problems, you will need a shop to diagnose this problem.
