For an 04 Ford Fiesta:
Open boot, remove two round plastic grommets from behind the light fixture. Using a flat head screwdriver, insert through the hole. There should be a metal spring clasp with a slight groove to reset the head of the screwdriver. Apply a little force and you should hear a snap/crack. Do this on the other side and the fitting should come free.
Here's a picture that shows the clasp when its been removed. You can just make out the clasp if you peer through the hole on the inside and look directly up:
