I have a '95 grand am quad 4, 2.3 liter engine. The 2.3 quad 4 engine has the spark plugs underneath the ignition module cover, which is the cover that has "Quad 4" written on it. You have to remove this cover to get to the spark plugs. To remove the cover, you have to first unplug the negative batter cable and then unplug the crankshaft sensor from the ignition module housing. The cranshaft sensor is the plug that is to the top right of the ignition module housing. After you have unplugged the sensor, you have to unscrew the four bolts that are on top of the ignition module cover. After you've done that, you can lift the cover directly up. This disconnects it from the spark plugs.
When purchasing new spark plugs, make sure you get the right ones for the engine, adn you can ask the guys at the shop to set the correct gap for you.
Remove the cover that reads Quad 4 then you will see the spark plug boots
This information should be on the fan shroud.
The spark plugs are beneath the cover marked Quad 4. This cover holds the ignition coils that spark the plugs. Remove the cover and you will be able to see the spark plug holes on the top.
I believe there is a slightly finned top on this motor (quad 4). remove the bolts on this and it should remove the finned plate, giving access to the spark plugs underneath.
You don't say what size of engine you have, if you have AA 6 cylinder, there are 3 plugs/wires in front of the engine and 3 in the back. You might have to take off your dogbones in front to pull the moter forward to get to the back plugs. If you have a quad 4 engine, they are under the intake manifold , on a quad 4 there are no plug wires, the spark plugs hook into spark plug towers . There are 2 bolts in the top manifold(where it says quad 4 ohc) and 2 bolts in the back, undo these and take off the manifolld and the plugs are right there.Hope this helped. Bratt
Under the engine top cover ( the piece that says Quad 4 or some thing like that)
quad 4 does not use spark plugs This must be a joke all gas motors use spark plugs yours are under the metal cover w/ 2.4 or 2.3 on it rite on the top of your motor
You need to unbolt the metal casement, that will say 'quad.." then lift up and remove spark plugs. If you have already gotten this far, then you probably don't need any more advice. We are trying to replace plugs on a 94. and Can't get it to start again.
you must have a quad 4 motor where the plugs are not visible. you must disconnect the connectors at the coil/module cover and unbolt. lift off the cover, coils, spark plug boots as one assembly. this cover is on top off the engine valve cover. you will need extra long 5/8 spark plug socket
probaly the air fuel mixtuer on the carb
Sounds like a 2.3 quad 4 motor. There is a "panel" on the top of the motor, called a housing cover. It has the ignition module and ignition coils under it. Below them are boots (replace them) and the plugs.
It is probably an ignition problem. The spark is becoming intermittent at high RPM'sStart with replacing spark plugs
