If the passenger door lock of your 2001 Suzuki Esteem is stuck, try using some lubricant, like WD-40, to loosen the mechanism. Spray it into the keyhole and work the lock gently with the key. If that doesn't work, you can also try pulling the door handle while turning the key. If the issue persists, it may be necessary to remove the door panel to access the locking mechanism for repairs.

remove the door panel. The door handle is fastened with two 10mm nuts. just unscrew those and if has a lock, remove the linkage clip from the lock to be able to remove the door handle. Installation is in reverse order. I just replaced mine today.
there is a retaining nut or clip on the back of the lock that holds it in place. remove the door panel and see what is broke or if the nut has loosened, and fell off. check the bottom of the door. It may be there waiting there to be found. hope it helps. duboff
Slide a thin aluminum ruler(yard)between window and door just over handle and strike down.It worked for me
