What does it mean when timing Belt Skipped One Tooth?

Timing belts have teeth on them that mesh with the cam gear. This is to make sure that the crankshaft and the cam shaft move precisely at the same time. If it skips a tooth, that means your timing belt slipped one or more teeth and now the cam and the crank shaft are not synchronized correctly.

How do you know if your timing chain skipped a tooth?

if timing chain has skipped a tooth, the car will run like crap. you would also hear rattling coming from timing chain area as chain is loose and stretched for it to jump a tooth. more likely to have lost a tooth off one of the timing gears. also u will not be able to time the engine correctly in this condition

Why after replacing the timing belt for a stratus 2000 2.4 I got P0172 problem?

Possibly you have the timing belt off one tooth.

Can a camshaft sensor and a crankshaft sensor for a 2002 Dodge Intrepid 3.5 not be insynce?

if your timing belt jumped one tooth or timing belt was installed incorrectly you will be out of sync also a defective timing belt tensioner will cause sync problems

How do you know if your timing belt goes out on a Toyota Camry?

You don't, it's either broken or not there is no in between. Unless you are very lucky and the belt will slip one tooth without braking. You will notice that because the engine timing will change.

On your 96 eclipse you had the timing belt crank sensor water pump changed and now the check engine light came back on. When you took it to advance auto the reader came back and gave a code p1390 and?

P1390 indicates your timing belt skipped one or more teeth...

How do you replace timing belt on 2004 civic EX?

if you do not know how to replace a timing belt you should not be doing it. if you are one tooth off when you are done you will bend valves and end up causing more damage. take it to a dealership and have it done by professionally trained technicians.

You changed the timing belt on your 1999 1.6l and now you have no acceleration on the gas pedal what is wrong?

The belt is one tooth off. Could be in either direction. Check the timing marks again or move it one tooth one way and see if it makes a difference. If not, move it 2 teeth the other direction. If all you did is change the belt, this has to be what's wrong. If you don't have the slack in the belt on the correct side, when you tighten the tensioner it will cause either the cam or crankshaft to move just about 1 tooth. Probably the cam since there is less resistance there. Took me a couple of times on a Camry before I could see what was going on.

How do you replace the timing belt on a 1988 Mercury Tracer?

I need to know what motor. YOu really need a manual to do this sort of thing. One tooth out or improper belt tension will destroy the valves, pistons, etc.

How do you replace a timing belt in VW?

Highly recommend taking it to a dealer. One if you get the timing off a tooth then your engine will crash. Meaning the piston will come up and hit the valves and bend them. Then you need a new engine.

Is there a video on replacing the timing belt on 1993 mitsibushi galant 2.0l sohc?

i dont know of any,but (not trying to be a smart ass)if you need a video to do the timing belt you might want to leave it to a mechanic,if your off by just one tooth on the cam gear it can make it run very badly,if at all.worst of all if you break that belt by doing it improperly you can end up with your valves bent. also im not sure about the 2.0 but my 96 2.4 has 2 timing belts,a balance shaft belt and the main timing belt,if one goes chances are the other will go with it
