You will have to completely flush the Power Steering system.

I do this by:

  • Remove all oil from the reservoir with a suction gun
  • Remove the low pressure return line from the reservoir
  • Extend the return line to a large oil drain bucket
  • Cap the return line connection on the reservoir.
  • Fill the system
  • Have a large jug of power steering oil available
  • Have your assistant start the car and immediately start turning the steering wheel all the way left and right.
  • Keep adding oil as the contaminated oil runs into the drain pan
  • When you are 100% sure the Brake fluid is all out shut the car off
  • Put the return line back on the reservoir and top up the fluid.
  • Start and swing wheel from side to side keep oil level up
  • Shut off and allow bubbles to disperse.
  • Repeat until when running there are no bubbles in system.

How can you tell if brake fluid in power steering res did any damage?

If your power steering pump is not working as well as it used to.

You put brake fluid where power steeling is supposed to go in is this a big problem can you just take it out and put right fluid in the car was ran only 15 minutes at most?

Both the power steering pump and the brake booster operate hydraulically. Putting brake fluid in the power steering pump will not harm it since brake fluid is a light oil only with different properties. I would only worry if it were the other way around and you put power steering fluid in the brake master cylinder. Power steering fluid doesn't have the heat range or density of brake fluid.

What is power steering fluid Where does it go?

power steering fluid is fluid that makes the power steering pump work and it goes in the power steering pump under the hood.

What is the problem when you can not steer nor brake the car 97 GMC astro its very hard t o steer the steering wheel and hard to brake its very hard when pressing the brake pedal?

For several years of the Chevy astro van had a power brake and power steering system that was linked together. Instead of a brake booster, the power steering pump provides power to the power brake system. Often, if the brake pedal would become hard to push, it is a power steering pump problem. Change the power steering pump and the power steering fluid and your problem may disappear.

How do you Replace Steering wheel fluid?

Can it hurt the steering pump by putting oil in it?

YES. your power steering pump is a hydraulic pump that pushes fluid through lines to make your wheels move. hydraulic fluid such as ATF or POWER STEERING FLUID is good for your power steering pump. it is a PUMP after all. OIL has the purpose of lubricating, and has very different qualities than hydraulic fluid. DO NOT put OIL in your power steering pump... put POWER STEERING FLUID or if you can't get power steering fluid AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID will do...

How can you fix the mistake of putting brake fluid in where the engine oil or power steering goes?

Brake fluid in the oil won't be much of a problem. It probably won't hurt anything, but to be on the safe side, just change the oil. In the power steering pump it will be harder to get out. You'll have to disconnect the high pressure line and let it pump out, then re-fill it with power steering fluid.

When does a car need power steering fluid?

I'll be civilized and answer this. The power steering pump is a hydraulic pump that needs fluid to pump so it can move the power steering gear. Simpler said no fluid no power steering. Hope you are not offended.

Do you need to change your power steering fluid?

Why do i have No power steering on a Pontiac Bonneville?

This is two of the things I know that could be wrong. The power steering pump is either bad or there is no power steering fluid in the pump causing it to have steering problems. Be sure to check the fluid level in the power steering pump.
