start by taking the distibutor cap off, the bring the #1 cylinder up to tdc (top dead center) then see were the rotor is pionting. then remove the hold down plate & remove the distibutor. next drop the new distibutor in making sure you put the rotor-gear in the same place the old rotor was. tighten the plate bak down then start the car if the car does not start or it has a miss then turn the distibutor till the motor either starts or the miss is gone. then you will need to time it with a timing light, if you don't have one take it to a shop and they will tune it for you for less than nothing.
