Unlock the door with your key. Reach under the dash on the drivers side and pull the hood release.

COULD BE A LOOSE BATTERY CABLE, AND WHEN YOU SHUT THE HOOD, IT GETS A CONNECTION. TRY TIGHTENING BATTERY CABLES.
The hood is in no way controlled or opened by the battery. A hood does not have an electric release. It's a cable operated system.
