You have to drop the fuel tank from under and the pump is inside the tank. From the top of the tank, once you have dropped it, you have to use a special tool, I think, to remove the ring that holds it in then you can pull it out and replace it.
that is correct, except that you don't need a special tool to remove the ring, just a BRASS punch to avoid sparks....put it on one of the tabs sticking up and tap it with a hammer counterclockwise
