If you are installing a new or rebuilt transmission and converter, pour 1 qt of ATF into torque converter before assembly. Add 4 qts of ATF after installation thru dipstick tube, start engine and then add aprox 7 qts ATF into dipstick tube until reading on dipstick says full.
NO....
It will "bolt up", but there is an issue with the torque converter. You will need to either have a standard torque converter machined/welded, or you will need to find the special torque converter that came on a 151/TH350 setup from the factory. I do not know if one actually exists, but I am looking.
Consult with the torque converter manufacturer of your choice.
It takes 12quarts of transmission fluid with torque converter drained.
yes as long as it has the correct stall that you need and its not from a 350C lock up.
YES As long as the flexplate is the same size or has additional mounting holes. To add to this answer in depth. i changed from a 350 to a 454. the 454 had a th400 transmission and the 350 had a th350 transmission. (This was a 4x4 so we had to use the th350 transmission because it had a married transfer case)the th400 flywheel did NOT match the th350 torque converter. We installed the th400 converter and it fit perfect in the th350 transmission. I would make sure torque converter bolts to flywheel and as well fits into trasmission before attempting to install in vehicle. It is a huge pain to make the swap half way through the install.
yes as long as it is not the 350C lock up convertor and have or need the right stall for your needs.
If you're talking about a TH400 transmission, yes... the TH350 torque converter is one inch smaller in diameter than the TH400 torque converter (12" vs 13"), and you'll have to make sure the holes on the flexplate line up (or drill them for both patterns). You'll get a bit more stall out of the 350 converter. If you're talking about the 700R4, the answer is going to be no.... that uses a lockup converter, which will not interchange with the TH converter.
To change the transmission torque converter on a 1998 Chevy Cavalier, first, ensure the vehicle is securely lifted and supported. Drain the transmission fluid and remove the transmission pan to access the torque converter. Disconnect the torque converter from the flexplate and remove the transmission from the engine, then replace the old torque converter with the new one before reinstalling the transmission and pan. Finally, refill the transmission with fluid and check for leaks.
25 ft/lbs.
Every reputable converter manufacturer will provide that information free of charge. I would not use a TH350 behind that big block. TH400 is a must.
The torque converter clutch is inside the torque converter. The torque converter clutch is inside the torque converter.
