On a 2004 PT Cruiser it is just ahead of the air filter. Remove the air filter cover to service the battery.

I have a 2002 Shadow Spirit, and I'm thinking the configuration has not changed since then. On the left side of the bike, remove the chrome cover by removing the nut at the bottom. Next, remove the chrome cover by gripping firmly and pulling. Tada! The battery is located behind the chrome cover.

The battery is located under the hood; just beyong the firewall on the passenger side. The plastic battery cover has two raised handles that should allow you to slide the cover toward the driver side of the vehicle. You will only have to slide it about one inch and it should release.
On the driver side you have to remove the tire to get to the battery.

Remove the seat. You will find the battery under it. Remove the negative terminal first, then the positive terminal.

It is a side mount battery. Shut off everything in vehicle. Use a Phillips head to remove the three screws that hold down the battery cover. (Front driver side) Use a wrench to remove bolts on the battery cable. Positive side first. When those are out you will need a socket with a 10" extender arm to remove the bolt that clamps the battery in place. it is on the bottom side of the battery on the inside side. You can reach it from the top with the extender. If I can do it anyone can do it. Sorry I do not remember the size socket and wrench.
