Removing the rear bumper is a relatively easy project. It's best to have two people, but you can probably get this project done with one person if you use extra care. I recently replaced the rear bumper of my 1995 Ford Escort LX Hatchback, but I think the bumper assembly is the same for 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996 Ford Escorts. First, there are six retaining nuts that will need to be removed, three on each side of the car. If you look under the car you will quickly see two of the retaining nuts behind the bumper on the passenger and driver side. Remove these two lower retaining nuts first, that way you will eliminate the chance of the bumper falling on you. This should be the only time you are directly under the car. On my hatchback I also had to remove the luggage compartment rear panel to gain access to the four remaining retaining nuts. Removing the interior rear panel was probably the most difficult task because I did not want to damage the cheap plastic plugs that hold the rear inside panel to the body of the car. After removing the panel, remove the four remaining retaining nuts located at the bottom of the rear interior luggage compartment. After removing all six retaining nuts the bumper should slide off the set bolts that are located on each side of the bumper. The set bolts keep the sides of the bumper flush with the car panel. When installing the bumper you will need to guide the new bumper on these set bolts to properly mount the bumper. If you are having difficulting taking off the bumper after you have removed the six retaining nuts, you may have to loosen (not remove) the set bolts. To loosen a set bolt you will need to remove the mud guards located just behind the wheels. When I was removing my bumper I only had to loosen one set bolt about one turn which was difficult enough because there is very little room to work in. The set bolt is located just behind the mud guard. You may need to use a flashlight to see it.
The bumpers should be compatible between the two.
