Sadly, the answer is... "depends". There are several different ones out there, possibly by model year. There were also more models in a given year which didn't necessarily have the same bulb. I found this out while trying to chase down mine... Best bet is to pull the bulb so you can get a part number off the base. Or get your shop to replace, and then it's their headache figuring out the part, but expensive to get done relative to the amount of work.
How do you replace a headlight lamp in a 1997 Mitsubishi 3000 GT?
There are two lights to each side, (low and high) at the back of the headlight assembly. It is accessed from under the hood. You will see where the wires go into the Headlight assembly which is the connector for the bulb. That turns about a 1/4 turn and then slides straight out. Once you have the light out you have to squeeze the base of the connector to release the bulb. The bulb is held in by a small plastic lip that when you squeeze the base of the connector is freed up. You pull the bulb straight out, but you will most likely have to apply some muscle as the lights are weather tight. That means they have a rubber or silicone weather strip around the base of the bulb that seals out water and it can make for a very tight fit. When you have the bulb out just replace it with the new one being careful of 2 things. 1-Don't touch the bulb as your skin oils can prematurely ruin the bulb or worse yet make it pop. 2-Make sure you put the correct watt bulb into the correct side. Each assembly has a high (60 or 65 watt) bulb and a low (50 or 55 watt) bulb. If you don't put the right one in the right side you could inadvertently turn on your high beams every time you turn on your lights and the oncoming drivers will be blinded by your lights.

It's relatively simple, however you need a thin wrist. 1. Dislodge the front brake air duct. 2. Reach in the front brake duct and follow wiring to the parking light housing assembly. 3. There's clip on the bulb housing that needs pressure applied, then gently rotate the bulb. 4. Simply remove and replace bulb. That will save about $40 to $50. If your wrist is too big, there's an alternate method: 1. Manually open the headlight (there's a round rubber cover over the control). 2. Remove the plastic headlight wrapper (3 screws). 3. Reach in through the opening to get to the light housing assembly and follow steps 3 and 4 above.

Manual describes it in section 10-50. 1. Disconnect the electrical connector, then remove rubber cover. 2. Remove the retainer spring. 3. Replace the bulb, then set the retainers spring securely. 4. Install the rubber cover with the top mark facing up, then reconnect electrical connector. This is simple and easy if the bulb assembly comes out easily. I completed steps 1 and 2 but instead of the bulb assembly simply sliding out the back cover on the contacts came off leaving me with the three contact prongs and nothing much to pull on. I used a pair of pliers (if you have needlenosed it might be better/easier) and g e n t l y pried the rest of the bulb assembly out and the rest went smoothly.

Open the hood You will see the headlights and they are covered by a plastic, and/or metal piece on the top of the headlight. If you look at each head light there is 2 "star shaped" screws. very distinct, and they are spaced on one the upper right and on on the lower bottom of this piece covering the headlights. Unscrew them both... they are very long screws. Pull out both screws, and keep them somewhere safe. The headlights will pull directly out with some minor wiggling, and there will be a wiring harness attached to each that is attached to the bulb. Now if your bulbs are good you can disconnect the wire by gently pulling it off, and then pop out the bulb. There is a black connector on the bulb, just turn till it loosens, and take the bulb right out. Then just set aside the bulb in a safe area, because if you bought a new headlight it most likely wont come with the bulb. I suggest getting a 9700 size bulb white light running from 30-50 bucks for the set. The stock bulbs blow. Now you have the screws out, the wiring harness off, and the bulb and its connector off. grab your new headlight, and place the old bulb (or new one) in the slot, and replace the plastic holder, and turn it till it locks. I suggest getting bulb grease, and rubbing it on the plastic bearing for a very easy installation and it will help in not damaging the bulb. next just plug in the wiring harness, and reset your headlight in so you can line up the holes so the screws can get in there nice and easy. Also notice when you are screwing the screws back in.... in between the holes there is a level... wipe it off if you cant read it and make sure it is level before you fully tighten or you are gonna have some light issues later on. Once the level is at 0 (or in the middle) tighten them screws nice and snug.
