No The tentioner should have bolt in center move tentioner to apply belt
Will let you know in 19984
The diagram is under the hood. Pull tentioner to release tention remove belt/ replace
find tentioner pull counter clockwise. this will relive presure/remove belt. Reinstall
I have put the new automatic tentioner on but, I can't seem to get the belt tight and keep the tentioner in its proper grooves.
To replace the drive belt on a '96 Suburban you have to release the tention on the tentioner pulley with a wrench or socket. Once you get the belt off of at least one pulley you can release the tentioner pulley. Remove the belt the rest of the way. To re-install the belt follow the routing guide under the hood. To get the belt all the way on you'll have to release the tentioner on the pulley again to get the belt all the way on. Once the belt is all the way on release the pulley and inspect the belt to make sure it's all the way on all the pulleys. Remove the wrench or socket and you're done. Hope this helps, good luck.
replace the belt not the tentioner also cost much less
The lower part of the drive belt runs around the tentioner. It's where the adjustment is made to tighten or loosen the belt.
First make note of how the belt is routed. Loosen the tentioner bolt at the alternator just enough to remove old belt. Replace with new belt and tighten just enough to where you can twist the belt only a half turn. Don't over tighten!
There is a diagram on the hood, to remove the belt look to the left behind the strut tower. There is a tentioner there and you release the tention by moving it with a wrench or socket.
Your water pump should run off of the serpentine belt. there shouldn't be a separate belt for the 4 cylinder. if you change the serpentine belt, there is a belt tentioner in the middle. using a wrench, not a ratchet(the ratchet will not have enough room to fully turn the tentioner), turn all the way to the right, remove the worn belt and replace it with a new one, following the belt diagram on the inside of the passengers side fender.
This should be a serpentine drive belt. If you havn't removed the belt yet make a sketch of how the belt goes over the pullys. Most vehicles now have a drawing somewhere under the hood. The tentioner for the belt is on top and requires a 5/8" or 15mm wrench to pull the tentioner away from the belt. remove the old, install the new. Pull the tentioner away as far as you need to slip the belt into place. Visually follow the belt all the way around to insure it is in place before starting the motor. HTH Stan If you dont have a belt routing drawing to install the belt go back to your parts store and look in the belt catalog. They have pictures for most all vehicles. Stan
