how do you replace the drivers side drive shaft and cv joint?
Lift the vehicle using a jack. Inspect the CV boot for problems. Mark the axle. Separate the CV from the shaft. Remove the CV boot clamps. Use a mallet to knock the CV joint off the shaft. Remove the boot from the CV axle shaft.
It is much cheaper to replace the CV shaft. Purchase a Haynes manual that is specific to your car.
easy
you can get the cv boot kit that you can glue the join on rather than taking the drive shaft off
To replace the CV half shaft on an Oldsmobile Bravada, start by lifting the vehicle and securing it on jack stands. Remove the wheel and brake components to access the CV joint. Disconnect the half shaft from the transmission and the wheel hub, then remove the old half shaft. Install the new half shaft by reversing the removal steps, ensuring all connections are secure before reassembling the brake components and wheel.
Don't bother trying to replace a torn boot on a half shaft. It is quicker, easier and cheaper to replace the whole half shaft.
Maybe it is one of the other cv-joints. Each half shaft has two cv-joints. Better off replacing the complete halfshaft with a rebuilt unit than to replace the one cv-joint only.
It's usually much more inexpensive to replace the entire drive shaft than to repair a worn cv joint. The new drive shaft will come with new cv joints and new boots.
sounds pretty straight-forward from this writeup: http://www.grandprixforums.net/cv_shaft_replacement.php
It's part of the driveshaft outer cv joint. Replace the shaft as per 2002 Clio 1.5dci
generally any more it is cheaper to put a whole half shaft in versus repairing a cv joint.
