To replace the Power Steering pump on a Chevy Impala, first, ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off. Remove the serpentine belt by releasing the tensioner, then disconnect the power steering fluid hoses from the pump. Unbolt the pump from its bracket, install the new pump, and reconnect the hoses. Finally, refill the power steering fluid, reattach the serpentine belt, and start the engine to check for leaks and proper operation.

regular power steering fluid is all you need.
the power steering resevoir, MAKE SURE the vehicle requires power steering fluid, some use transmission fluid instead. If your unsure take it to a lube center and ask them to do it you. In the 2004 Chevy Impala with the 3.8L engine, the power steering pump is a sealed unit. It does not require fluid to be added. Also if you have to replace it, it is not an easy job. The power steering pump is above the transmittion and behind the center of the engine.
