To replace the lower control arm ball joint on a 2002 PT Cruiser, first, safely lift the vehicle and remove the wheel. Disconnect the lower control arm from the knuckle by removing the retaining nut and bolt, then detach any other components connected to the control arm. Press out the old ball joint using a ball joint separator or a suitable tool, then install the new ball joint into the control arm and reassemble all components in reverse order. Make sure to torque all bolts to the manufacturer's specifications and check the alignment afterward.

To replace the control arm on a PT Cruiser you must first raise the vehicle, and then remove the front tire and wheel assembly. The stabilizer bar links from the Cruiser and rotate the forward ends of the stabilizer downward. Remove the nut and pinch bolt to ease resistance, follow up by removing the ball joint stud to the steering knuckle. The ball joint stud should be separated from the steering knuckle by prying down the lower control and up against the ball joint on the steering knuckle. Remove in this order: the front pivot bolt attaching the lower control arm; the rear pivot bolt attaching the lower control arm to the front suspension cross-member and frame rail; remove the lower control arm from the cross-member. Replace the bushings, and then reassemble the unit.
You have to replace the lower control did assembly .
For the lower ball joint, remove the lower control arm and the ball joint seal. Press the ball joint from the control arm. Press the new ball joint into the lower control arm ensuring it is fully seated, install a new seal and the lower control arm.
You can not just change the ball joint , you have to replace the whole lower control arm with ball joint.
You must replace the entire control arm assembly with the ball joint included.

The ball joint is an integral part of the lower control arms. Ergo you must replace the entire lower control arm. Dealer cost is about $450 ea there's no aftermarket availability that I have found. My car's not worth the price of the parts ro replace the arms. RATS.
I believe you can change just the ball joint on the lower control arms , the upper ball joints come with a new control arm
Get a big hammer and beat the lower ball joint out from the top of the lower control arm then look at the new ball joint make sure they match before you press them in.
