I had the engine light come on in my patrol due to overheating and I had to take the vehicle to the dealer's service centre where they plugged it into the computer which advised why the light came on and then reset it. There was a minimal service fee for this. I assume it will be the same process for the Mazda.

The body control module (BCM) primarily manages electrical systems related to vehicle body functions, such as lighting, windows, and locks, rather than engine performance. However, it can indirectly influence engine overheating if it controls components related to the cooling system, like electric fans. If the BCM malfunctions and fails to activate the cooling fans when needed, it could contribute to engine overheating. Overall, while not directly responsible, the BCM can play a role in the engine's thermal management.
To reset the service engine soon light on a 2004 GMC Envoy you can remove the ECU fuse. ECU stands for electronic control unit.
Actually Engine Management systems are sophistication systems for good operation of Engine. May be the cooling control system get affected which leads to overheating of engine.
