I take it you have a newer model cavalier. Which means you have an OBD-II computer. This type of computer stores the code until fixed. So if there is a preblem, then this fix will only be temporary...(STEP1) Disconnect battery for about 30 mins or even while you sleep at night. (STEP2) Reconnect battery...ENJOY!!!
