I just rebuilt the carb on a Tecumseh 8hp snowblower engine mounted on a Craftsman frame. It was a 1986 model so it has the adjustable main jet and adjustable idle mixture jet. Screw in both jets to just snug, do not over tighten or you will ruin the jet or the carb. Back out the main jet approximately 2 full turns. It is located on the bottom of the carb float bowel. Back the idle mixture adjust jet out 1 1/4 turns. It is located on the side of the carb and can be accessed through an access hole in the side of the carb shield. It is the lower access hole. Start the engine and let it warm up. Fine tune the main jet by screwing it in until the engine runs rough. Now back it out until the engine runs smoothly at high speed without any choke. You should be good to go. If you wish to adjust the engine speed at low speed set the throttle control lever to just above where it enters the kill switch at the bottom. Now you can adjust the low speed idle by adjusting the screw at the top of the carb right next to the throttle butterfly control. It can be accessed through the top access hole in the side of the carb shield. Turn the screw in (to the right) to increase low idle speed and turn out (to the left) to reduce idle speed. Your engine should now run smoothly at both low and high speed.
318cc. is 8hp. 305cc.is probably between a 6 to an 8hp.
Briggs straitton

Surging is often fixed by replacing the fuel filter. A simple job and most small engine shops will have the part.
As a snowblower is used in the winter use 10w30 weight synthetic oil and change the oil once each year.
On my 8hp model, there is a drain that comes straight off the back of the engine. If you are standing behind the snowblower, bend down and look at the back of the engine between the handles. You should see a square plug. Unscrew that, oil will flow.
Sounds like you have a broken shear pin. Check those first.
Try cleaning the muffler cleaning the carburetor and decarbonizing the engine by disconnecting the PCV hose and running the engine untill it warms up. Run the engine at wide open throttle and trickle two gallons of water down with the air filter off. What this does is builds up a LOT of steam and blows carbon out like magic. Hope this helps!
Not very fast, possibly about 25 mph.
i have been a small engine tech at a john deere dealership for the last 10years just last week i was given a trs 26 snowblower that a customer did not want to spend the money for the required repairs. getting back to the question above the engine that are on the trs26 are techumseh 8hp the carb are made by walbro but made to techumseh specifcations, i hope this answers your question....
