Disconnect the ground wire under hood right side (passenger) 15mm nut holding cable to stud on strut tower. if there is a active condition fault, the light will come back on. Autozone will read your codes for free.

Most legitimate codes will stay on even after you try disconnecting the negative battery cable, or you cycle the ignition switch 5-7 times. This can happen if the chip in your key is bad ( Even if everything else works fine) It will try your patience and will sometimes mimic an exhaust leak code or a code that leads to a bad seal in your gas cap.
