The cooling water, at idle speed, is drawn into the water pump through the pickup screens, located on both sides of the gearcase. The water pump then forces the water out of it's housing, having been pressurized by the rotating rubber impeller, up through a length of tubing, into the powerhead. The cooling water now circulates throughout the powerhead, absorbing the heat generated by fuel combustion, and is expelled out through the exhaust.

At running speeds, the water pump acts as a circulating pump, similar to an automotive pump, as the water is forced into the pickup screens. At higher speed the pickup screensact like scuppers, picking up the water and forcing it into the pump.

What is the difference between freon and anitfreeze for a vehicle?

"Freon" is the product name of the refrigerant GASused in air conditioning systems. Freon is compressed and expanded to cool the INSIDE of the vehicle.Antifreeze is a LIQUID that is circulated through the engine to keep the engine from melting down. When an engine is running it generates a lot of heat. If the heat is not dissipated, the engine will fail. Water is used to cool the engine and antifreeze is mixed with the water to prevent freezing in the winter and to prevent rust the rest of the time. The water/antifreeze is pumped through the engine then when the water is hot it is pumped through the radiator where it is cooled and pumped back through the engine.

How does an outboard motor water pump work?

An outboard motor water pump operates by drawing water from the body of water in which the boat is submerged. As the engine runs, the pump's impeller spins, creating a vacuum that pulls water into the pump housing. The impeller then forces the water through the cooling system, circulating it to cool the engine and expel excess water through the exhaust. This continuous flow prevents overheating and ensures the engine operates efficiently.

How does the cooling system on a 7.5 mercury work?

The cooling system on a 7.5 Mercury outboard motor operates using a water circulation method. Water is drawn in through an intake located on the lower unit and is pumped through the engine block to absorb heat. After circulating, the heated water is expelled back into the water body, helping to maintain optimal engine temperature. This system usually includes a water pump, thermostat, and cooling passages to ensure efficient temperature regulation.

What happens if your water pump goes out?

There will be no water pumped into your engine to cool it, then you might need a new engine.

What is a Vw aircooled engine?

An engine that is cooled by air, not by water, and that powers a VW. Engines produce heat. So much heat that it must be removed from the engine or it will cause damage. Most car engines heat up water that is pumped through the empty spaces in the engine block; the heated water (and antifreeze, a.k.a. coolant) is then pumped through the radiator where ambient air is drawn through by a fan. Since outside air is cooler, the water cools off. When the cooled water re-enters the engine, it cools the engine. In a VW air-cooled engine, the outside air is simply blown over the engine itself. The engine has fins to help dissipate heat, like many motorcycle engines to. Aircooled VW engines also have oil coolers.

How do you drain a 1980 mercury outboard 20 hp of water?

By simply storing your outboard in a vertical position, powerhead up, the cooling water will drain out of the engine via the gearcase.

How much water can be pumped through a half inch pipe?

Given enough time the entire ocean could be pumped through a half-inch pipe.

Can water get into the oil when sitting in a boat?

only if there is a serious engine problem. A boat motor is cooled by lake water instead of a radiator and coolant system. The lake water is pumped into the motor's cooling tubes and pumped out through the exhaust. The only way I can see that there would be water in the oil is if the motor has a blown head gasket or a cracked valve.

Does a starfish have blood?
