Till your battery runs dead.
To remove the alternator from a 2004 Hyundai Tiburon GT, first disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shock. Next, remove the drive belt by loosening the tensioner, then detach the wiring harness and the mounting bolts on the alternator. Once the bolts are removed, you can carefully pull the alternator out of its bracket. Reverse the process to install a new alternator.
First you need to remove the AC belt to be able to install the alternator belt. This can be accomplished by loosening the hinge bolt and set bolt on the side. Then adjust the tensioner bolt till you can slip the AC belt off. Then you need to loosen the alternator hinge bolt and the set bolt on the side. Then adjust the tensioner bolt to the point where you can put the new alternator belt on to the main drive pulley, water pump and alternator pulleys. Then tighten the tensioner bolt till the belt has about 1/2 of give in the middle of the belt. Once in place tighten the set belt and hinge bolt.Repeat the same process for putting the AC belt back on.***I have replaced my alternator belt 4 times in the last two years and need to install it for the 5th time. I just found out that there is a consistent issue with Protoges and aftermarket alternator belts and proper fit. Save your self the time of doing this job over and over again and buy the OEM belt from your Mazda dealer.***
To tighten the alternator belt on a Renault Clio 1.4 RT, first, locate the alternator and the tensioner mechanism. Loosen the mounting bolts of the alternator and adjust its position to increase tension on the belt. Once the belt is tight, typically with about half an inch of deflection when pressed in the middle, retighten the mounting bolts securely. Finally, check the belt alignment and tension before starting the engine.
To tighten the alternator belt on a 2001 Mazda MPV, first, locate the alternator and loosen the mounting bolts. Then, adjust the alternator's position to increase the tension on the belt. Once the desired tension is achieved, re-tighten the mounting bolts securely. Finally, check the belt's tension by pressing down on it; it should have a slight give but not be overly loose.
you start by loosening the tension pulley that's actually hooked to the alternator(right off the top bolt), once this is loosened, you can move the alternator back to where the belt fits and tighten it back up and your done
Drive the car up onto ramps or jack the car up to change the alternator you need have access from the bottom of the engine. Access to the alternator is very tight. First disconnect the battery. Accessing from the top loosen the drive belt and remove the adjusting bolt, ground wire, battery wire and plug in connector from alternator, do this before removing the bottom bolt from alternator. Once bottom bolt is removed the alternator is to be taken out the bottom, it is a tight but it will come out. Hope this helps.
To remove the alternator belt on a 2005 Kia Sorento, first locate the tensioner pulley and use a wrench to rotate it counterclockwise, which will relieve tension on the belt. Slide the belt off the alternator pulley and the other pulleys as needed. Once removed, you can inspect or replace the belt as necessary. Ensure to route the new belt correctly before reapplying tension with the tensioner.
Replacing (or tightening) the main drive belt is very easy, you will need a 12mm socket wrench and a 14mm open end wrench. Loosen (do not remove) the two bolts above the alternator that are attached to the metal bracket that allow the alternator to slide (the alternator is attached to the topmost pulley that the drive belt touches, it is at the top front passenger side of the engine compartment). There is a 3rd bolt below the alternator, slightly difficult to see, loosen it using the 14mm wrench, it is often difficult to turn, I recommend penetrating oil and a breaker bar, you only need to turn it a little bit to allow the alternator to pivot. Once all three bolts are loose, you can easily rock the alternator back and forth (same procedure is used to tighten the drive belt). You want to push the alternator back to remove the belt. After installing a new belt (or to tighten an existing belt) you need to pull the alternator toward the front of the car as far as possible. The best way to do this is by putting a pry bar on top of and slightly behind the alternator and pushing up toward the windshield while using the engine as a pivot - this gives you plenty of leverage and allows you to pull the alternator forward. While you are prying, you can tighten the bolt that holds the alternator to the bracket using your left hand as you brace the pry bar with your right hand, to hold it all in place.
To install an alternator belt on a 2001 Chevy Metro, first, ensure the engine is off and cool. Loosen the alternator mounting bolts to allow for adjustment, then route the new belt around the alternator pulley and the other pulleys according to the belt routing diagram, usually found on a sticker in the engine bay. Once the belt is in place, adjust the alternator to achieve the proper tension, and tighten the mounting bolts securely. Finally, check the belt alignment and tension before starting the engine.
To adjust the loose alternator belt on your 1986 Chrysler LeBaron convertible with a 2.2L engine, first locate the alternator, which is mounted on the engine. Loosen the mounting bolts on the alternator and the adjusting bolt to allow movement. Adjust the alternator to achieve the proper tension on the belt—generally, you should be able to press the belt down about half an inch at the midpoint. Once the desired tension is achieved, tighten the bolts securely to hold the alternator in place.
Loosen the mounting bolts for the alternator (one on left and one on right, both facing forward), then use the 3rd alternator bolt which faces up, unscrew it, and this will lower the alternator. Refit the new belt (make sure you center the new belt on all 3 pulleys engine, power steering, and alternator), then use the straight-up bolt to raise the alternator, tightening the belt. Careful not to set too tight-- you should be able to push the belt sideways 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch (cold engine) on the part between the alternator and the engine crankshaft. Retighten the 2 bolts facing forward-- this will lock the alternator in place. Drive the car for a day, then recheck belt tension when engine cools down-- sometimes will loosen a bit, so you must loosen the 2 bolts, raise the alternator a bit more, then retighten. This retighten should only have to be done once, if at all.
