To change the Transmission Fluid is not particularly difficult.
1. Raise the vehicle as needed and support on stands.
2. Place a suitable drain pan under the transaxle and remove the pan bolts. As you remove the bolts the pan will loosen allowing the fluid to drain out into the drain pan. Be careful to avoid a spill outside the drain pan.
3. While the pan is off is an excellent time to change the transmission filter.
4. Re install the pan. lower the car and refill the transaxle with fresh fluid to the proper level.
Alternate way;
Remove the pressure hose to the radiator cooler. Start the engine and let the pump drain the fluid into a suitable container. As soon as the flow stops turn the engine off. Reconnect the line and fill the transaxle to the proper level with new fluid.
My 1990 Chevy celebrity does not have a drain plug on the transmission pan. Your car probably does not have one either. You could break loose a transmission line from the radiator and add fluid in the dipstick tube while the car is running until the color of the transmission fluid clears up. I am guessing you are trying to change the transmission fluid. This is how I changed my transmission fluid there are lots of videos on how to do this on youtube.
Generally the transmission dipstick is on the backside of the engine near the firewall.
To change the transmission fluid on your Chevy Malibu 2005, first, pull off the pan, drain the fluid, and replace it.
Transmission fluid doesn't have a cap. It's added with a small funnel to the dipstick tube.
According to my factory service manual a 3 speed transaxle uses 5 quarts of transmission fluid.
You will have to remove the transmission pan that is on the bottom of the transmission to drain the fluid.
Why? There is no need to change the manual transmission fluid in a 2 year old vehicle.
You should probably change a Chevy Impala transmission fluid every 3000 miles. This also applies to most vehicles on the road today. It is also important to check your transmission fluid at least twice a month.
Remove the plug from the bottom of your 2000 Chevy transmission. Allow the transmission to completely drained out. Return the transmission plug to its original position. Fill the transmission with new fluid.
