Most CV Joints are held on by retaining clips. Cut the boot out of the way and clean the grease off with brake cleaner, look for a snap ring, if no snap ring is visible then it may have a retaining clip that requires you to put shaft in a vise and hit the joint to drive the CV joint off the shaft (care should be taken not to damage the cage if it is to be re-used).
With the low cost of CV 1/2 shaft assemblies, I recommend replacing the entire half shaft assembly and not bothering with removing the CV from the old shaft.
