Your heater will blow cold air only.
I wouldn't think you could flush a heater core. you can flush a radiator. Heater core you would have to replace if it is leaking or stopped up
normally when the heater core becomes plugged you will have n eat and you will notice a definite spike in engine temperature.

Sounds like the heater core is stopped, Do this, Get the truck up to opperating temp. Shut off engine, raise hood and locate the two hoses that go to and from the heater core, Feel both of them to see if they are warm. If not then it is likely that the core is stopped up.

If it is leaking, then it can cause the engine to overheat and the only fix is to replace it. A clogged or plugged heater core can sometimes be fixed by flushing it. You can also temporarily bypass the heater core until you can get it fixed. Just connect the inlet & outlet heater hoses together.
