Yes, a bad ground can cause the brake warning light to illuminate. If there is a poor electrical connection in the grounding system, it can lead to incorrect readings from the brake system sensors or cause electrical faults, triggering the warning light. Additionally, issues with the brake fluid level or the brake system itself can also contribute to the light turning on, so it's important to check all related components.
Is it the parking brake light or the ABS light? is it red light or amber?
I would suspect that the brake pad warning light wire has lost part of it's outer insulation, When you turn the steering, the wire is most likely shorting to earth which will cause the W/L to illuminate on the dash.
Brake fluid in reservoir below acceptable level.
The BOO (Brake On/Off) Switch may need to be replaced. If it is bad, it would cause the brake lights to NOT illuminate when the brake pedal is applied.
It is possible that a wheel speed sensor is bad. This will cause the anti lock braking to not read the wheel correctly which would be a brake problem that would cause a light.
A leak in the braking circuit is a likely cause.. Brake fluid leaking from a poorly tightened joint etc - will cause the level in the reservoir to fall - causing the sensor to trip the warning light.
The good news is the brake lights still appear to work even when this warning is displayed. Does anyone know if the brake lights are at risk of not coming on when you hit the brakes?
The most probable cause of both lights being on at the same time is a malfunction of each system. The brake light may illuminate because of a problem with the ABS unit, or because of low brake fluid. The battery light may illuminate because of a problem with the charging system, such as a malfunctioning alternator or dying battery. It could also be a problem common to both lights, such as a bad ground somewhere or an ECU problem.
This warning light means that you need to add brake fluid to your car. Improper fluid levels can cause brake malfunction resulting in an accident.
Brake lighta computer sensor. It could also be low brake fluid.
FYI - I had a bad alternator. Apparently, a failed alternator may/can/will cause the battery AND brake warning lamps to come on. Alternator has been replaced, and all warning lamps cleared.
i have a 1999 grand prix mine did the same thing.it is a warning for low brake fluid. i know cause my car goes through brake fluid like water
