Brake fluid in reservoir below acceptable level.

Check around brake pedal for something rubbing. If OK, I'd look into the master cylinder.
It probably means that there is a problem with the electrical connection between the brake ligts and the brake pad and so it does not light when one brakes. Another possibility is that there could be a real serious defect in the braking system e.g. the brake fluid tubes.AnswerIt means a lot of things, but the most common and simplest is that one of the brake light bulbs burned out. Honda puts two in each brake light so you don't get rear-ended on the freeway or pulled over by the cops before you can get to the auto parts store, but check your brake lights by pulling each bulb, inspecting it and cleaning the socket. It could also mean the brake fluid is low. The most common reason for this is that the brake fluid in the reservoir goes down as your brake pads wear our. Warn pads often result in low fluid and a brake warning light. Check your fluid level. If its low don't fill it. First, check your brake pads front and rear to see if they are worn out. If you fill the reservoir and then replace the pads, you will spill fluid out of the reservoir when you push the pistons back in the calipers. The other most common brake light indication is if the emergency (parking) brake is engaged. Check to make sure it is released.I have to disagree with the second answer. Normal brake wear will NOT cause a lower fluid level. The brake indicator on usually always means low fluid in the brake system. Blown light bulbs in the brake circuit will NOT cause a brake light to come on. It is only something directly related to the brake system. Brake Fluid is the monitored component in the brake system. It also will give an ABS light with LOW FLUID,,,,possibly indicating a leak.
Any sudden brake loss can be the cause of 1. brake line damage 2. master cylinder disfunction
There is what is called a brake sensor. This sensor has to engage to sent a signal to the transmission to release the pawl so that you can shift it. Replace the brake pedal sensor. It is usually on the top of the pedal arm upward under the dash. This will also cause the brake lights not to work. Good luck.
Brake lighta computer sensor. It could also be low brake fluid.
check brake fluid level.
Air in a brake line or a bad master cylinder could cause this. Bleed the brake lines if you have been working on any brake cylinder. If this happened without any warning, the master brake cylinder is probably the cause and should be replaced.

It is possible that a wheel speed sensor is bad. This will cause the anti lock braking to not read the wheel correctly which would be a brake problem that would cause a light.
A leak in the braking circuit is a likely cause.. Brake fluid leaking from a poorly tightened joint etc - will cause the level in the reservoir to fall - causing the sensor to trip the warning light.
The good news is the brake lights still appear to work even when this warning is displayed. Does anyone know if the brake lights are at risk of not coming on when you hit the brakes?
This warning light means that you need to add brake fluid to your car. Improper fluid levels can cause brake malfunction resulting in an accident.
could be a problem with the sesor in the emergency brake. a bad connection there could cause the light to blink with the vibration of the car running On some cars, the brake warning light will blink if the parking brake is set, and you drive... it could be a failed parking brake switch, assuming the brake is not applied. It is supposed to blink to get your attention. One car that does this is the Mitsubishi Starion, there are probably some others, too.
FYI - I had a bad alternator. Apparently, a failed alternator may/can/will cause the battery AND brake warning lamps to come on. Alternator has been replaced, and all warning lamps cleared.
Some of the dangers of brake failure are the following: vehicle could pull to one side and this would cause collision, also there is danger of passenger death and car damage.
i have a 1999 grand prix mine did the same thing.it is a warning for low brake fluid. i know cause my car goes through brake fluid like water
