In the Toyota MR2, the battery is located in the front trunk compartment, which is accessible by opening the front hood. This design is part of the MR2's mid-engine layout, allowing for better weight distribution. To access the battery, you may need to remove any covers or panels that are in the way.
On the second generation MR2 and MR2 Turbo (1991 through 1995 USA, and 1991 through 1999 for the rest of the world), it is on the FRONT side of the engine, between the engine and the rear firewall of the cabin area. It is the right side of the car.
To change the alternator on a 1991 Toyota MR2, first disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety. Remove the drive belt by loosening the tensioner, then detach the alternator by unbolting it from its bracket. Disconnect the electrical connections, then install the new alternator by reversing the process—reattaching the electrical connections, securing it in place, and reapplying the drive belt. Finally, reconnect the battery terminal and test the new alternator.
To replace the speedometer cable on a 1991 Toyota MR2, first, disconnect the negative battery terminal and remove the instrument cluster by unscrewing the necessary screws and gently pulling it out. Locate the speedometer cable at the back of the cluster and unscrew it from the speedometer. Next, trace the cable to the transmission, disconnect it there, and replace it with a new cable by reversing the removal steps. Finally, reassemble the instrument cluster and reconnect the battery.
The battery is behind the spare tire, under the bonnet.
To access the battery on a Toyota MR2, you typically need to open the rear trunk, as the battery is located in the trunk compartment. Remove any covers or panels that may obstruct access to the battery. Ensure the ignition is off and disconnect the negative terminal first, followed by the positive terminal when working on the battery. Always consult your owner's manual for specific instructions related to your MR2 model.
