There is various ways to do this. To do all three you have to take the shifter cable off first thing before advancing, which is one 9/16 nut. The first and most common is to drop the tranny pan and remove the shaft from the inside once the pan is dropped....then you can remove the seal from the outside. The second way is installing 2 little screws on each side of the seal on the outside and work it out. The thrid way is the easiest, but it cost about 40 bucks. They make a puller just for these seals...heres a link to one http://www.atec-trans-tool.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1910 good luck with the replacement.

How come your car goes in to reverse but you can not get the shifter in drive?

This could mean that your shiftier linkage has bent somehow. You need to replace the linkage as bending it back will only result in having a weakened part. If may also mean that your fluid level is low in the transmission and it won't shift into a specific gear. Add fluid as necessary.

What would cause the gear shift in your 96 accent to have a lot of play in it 1st gear is now very far to the left and reverse is far right 3rd and 4th are fine no broken parts visual in linkage drive?

If the linkage is not loos or damaged, check the linkage bushings for wear. If the bushings are not worn and the linkage is properly adjusted then the problem is internal. the shifter bushings, rods and shifter forks are probably worn and need replacing.
