Why won't my topaz come out of park even though the linkage is moving?

Do you mean that the shifter is able to move from park to drive and back, but the transmission is still in park? Is it possible that the shifter cable is broken, or has come off at the transmission. You will have to jack up the car, on safety jacks, have someone move the shifter, while you look at the linkage right at the transmission. Should give you the answer. The shifter itself could also be broke. Good luck.

Why won't the transmission shift into high gear?

It depends on the type of transmission. If it is a manual transmission, the first thing to check would be the linkage. If the linkage is not the problem, then it could be the bushings or the synchronizer. If it is an automatic transmission, then it could be a problem with the bands, though you could have debris in the valve body or a servo problem. In some cases, linkage bearings could be an issue.

Is a 96 v6 firebird transmission the same as the lt1 transmission?

No, they are different. They do use the same console shifter though. I know that's not what you wanted to hear. Sorry.

Can you sWap an automatic for manual transmission?

The short answer is yes. It is an involved process and leads to cutting of the floor to allow for the shifter, but a transmission is a transmission and as long as it will mount to the engine it can be installed. Kinda costly though.

Car will not drive forward?

Type of car and standard or automatic would help. More information is always helpful. Transmission may be shot. Automatic may be low on fluid. Front wheel drive, one of the axles may be bad and no longer engaging the wheel. This would be noisy. Shifter cable or linkage may be disconnected. Standard transmission, the clutch may be worn out and no longer putting the power to the transmission. Without more information, that about all the ideas I can give.

What transmission is in a 1997 Blazer?

The 1997 Blazer came with a 4L60E 4 speed automatic transmission. This transmission is electronically controlled, which is particularly good to know when dealing with the 1997 year model. The 1997 Blazers are known to develop faulty connections in the electrical ignition switch that can interrupt the power to the transmission. When this occurs, it makes it seem as though the transmission has gone bad, when in fact the ignition switch is the real culprit.

I can't place my 2001 Intrigue in Park even though the gear shift lever indicates that the car is in Park but the car is actually in the reverse gear What would cause that?

It is likely that the shifter linkage is out of adjustment. This is not a good project for a beginning mechanic, as the alignment can change when hitting a bump or making a sudden stop. Find a good transmission shop or mechanic and have them look at it.

How many quarts of transmission fluid for a 2000 miata?

1999-2000 models are different from the 2001-2005 models, in that they have separate chambers for the transmission fluid and the shifter. If you only intend to change the transmission fluid, you need 2 quarts. If you would also like to change the shifter turrent fluid, you will need to purchase an extra bottle, though you will only use a few ounces of it.

Why doesn't fifth gear in a 1988 Honda accord lx when all gears work just fine?

I would check the linkage on the unit. If the linkage is worn or damaged that could make it difficult or impossible to get the car into 5th gear even though the transmission is fine.

Is there a 6 speed transmission for a 91 Toyota MR2 non turbo?

Not that i know of, but ! There is a 6-speed in the newer celica GTS model, and that transmission will bolt up to the 2.2 Non Turbo engine in the MR2 as well as the turbo engine... But the problem is getting the shift linkage hooked up, the rear engine has a shift linkage on the front of the transmission, and the FWD has a linkage on the rear of the transmission. But i am in the process of putting in a and buying a 6-speed Celica transmission That 6-speed transmission will NOT bolt to a 5sfe, 3sge or 3sgte engine. There are currently no 6 speed options. there might be a 6 speed depending on 09 its not confirmed yet though so keep the fingers crossed

Why won't a 1989 Ford Aerostar pull when in drive?

will it not pull at all or just not well?? Could be low on transmission fluid if its having trouble moving when in drive.... I know i have seen it happen on a 95' ford aerostar, not an 89 though... If it doesn't move at all, perhaps shift linkage is not putting transmission into gear. check under van to inspect linkage.

Why does your 1993 Chrysler New Yorker transmission do nothing when you put it in gear even though the linkage moves on the transmission housing For awhile the car would run about 6 miles then stop?

Very good chance that the transmission needs to be rebuilt. Check the fluid level first to see if it needs some.
