Mine was really! stuck, I put a strap ( 5/8" nylon webbing -1800lb load) around it where I there is no space to reach - right at the transmission:
1) Attempted to make slide hammer so it would pop out easily -
2) 2 hours later, I backed the van up the sidewalk and used a come-along.
REMEMBER THE SHAFT HAS TO COME STRAIGHT OUT !
With way more strength in very tight area it popped-out!
I think it was well 'seated' after 18 years.
A local shop quoted my brothers 2000 Grand Prix GTP CV Joint replacement at 700 Canadian dollars.
A CV joint in one of the front halfshaft axles is going bad.
Replacing the CV joint on a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am involves several steps. First, safely lift and secure the vehicle, then remove the wheel and brake assembly to access the axle. The CV joint can then be detached from the axle and replaced with a new one, ensuring proper lubrication and sealing. Finally, reassemble the components and perform a test drive to ensure everything is functioning correctly.
The boot on my cv joint is stuck inside of the trans how do u go about getting that out and what else do i need to fix after that comes out
To remove a stuck CV half shaft, first ensure the vehicle is securely lifted and supported. Use penetrating oil on the joint area to help loosen any corrosion. Then, gently tap the CV joint with a rubber mallet to break the seal, while pulling outward. If it remains stuck, you may need a slide hammer or a specialized CV joint puller for more leverage.
When a CV joint is bad in a Pontiac G6, it typically produces a clicking or popping noise, especially when turning or accelerating. You may also hear a grinding sound when driving straight. These noises indicate that the joint is failing, and it’s advisable to have it inspected to prevent further damage. If left unaddressed, a bad CV joint can lead to more serious issues with the drivetrain.
It is generally not cost-effective to replace individual CV joints. Rebuilt or new CV shaft assemblies in most cases cost less than the joint itself, and are a lot less work to install.

When the CV joints start to leak grease or make snapping and cracking noises.
CV joints on any car are part of a "half-shaft," and they run from the wheel to the transmission.
CV (Constant-Velocity) joint
