Make sure you correctly locate the noise before tearing into the engine, nothings worse than making an erroneous diagnosis when it comes to time and dollars... If the noise is indeed in the top of the engine then pull the valve cover and check for wear in the valve train. Repair or replace pivot points, lifters, etc. as may be required.
