incomplete combustion of the petrol in the cylinders which is then being released in the exhaust.
For steam to come out the exhaust you probably have a bad head gasket or a cracked head. If the turbo had an oil seal fail it would cause blue smoke to come out the exhaust.

incorrect engine timing so that it misfires
Actually, those are drops of water mixed in with the carbon that lines most exhaust systems. Normal.
Emissions are what come out of your exhaust and 2008+ (usa) have a newer exhaust setup that is suppose to cut down on contaminates that come from your exhaust.

Worn piston rings and or clogged EGR system and or failed EGR valve
warped valve cover. bad gasket. cracked valve cover cracked block
There are two things that can cause it. The most likely one is timing too retarded. The other is an exhaust leak. Since your car is fuel injected, you probably have the Exhaust Gas Recirculation system hooked up, and this is where most of the backfire-causing exhaust leaks come from. So it's probably timing.
If the exhaust pipe, muffler, or tail pipe have come loose, you will certainly hear the rattling, but that would not be the cause of the shaking. It is something else causing the shaking, ranging from bad tires to bad engine performance.
