It is defective and needs replacing.
Ignition switch lock cylinder
Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. Straighten out a paper clip and insert it into the small release hole on lock cylinder. Turn the key to the start position and you will need to wiggle and pull on key till the lock cylinder releases. Sometimes it is easier to remove the entire switch and work on it as the lock cylinders can be stubborn to remove even for someone who has done it alot.
Hey Albert==It is probably in the lock cylinder. You may have to replace it. Get a manual on your car to find out the procedure. Goodluck Joe
If you are talking about the ignition lock cylinder, turn the key to the accessory position, insert a paper clip into the little hole on the face of the lock cylinder to release the lock pin, turn the key a little further in a counter clock-wise direction and the lock cylinder will pull out. If you are talking about a door lock cylinder, remove the door panel, roll the window all the way up, pop the little clip loose on the lock rod that is hooked to the back of the cylinder and remove the rod from the lock arm, then pull the 'C' clip out that is holding the lock cylinder in place and push the lock cylinder out.
if it is the ignition lock cylinder, first disconnect the battery, you need to remove the steering wheel ,turn signal switch , etc, then you need to insert the ignition key into the lock cylinder, turn it to the run position, then pull the cylinder out, reverse the operation to install the cylinder,
key does not start the truck and will not come all the way back to lock.
I don't know about the blue and gray plastic things, but the ignition lock cylinder must have the key in the on (run) position in order to get it to release in order to remove it, and the same on (run) position to install the lock cylinder.
the steering wheel will lock and the key will come out, unless of course the ignition cylinder is broken
When you turn the key to the on position, the theft light should begin to flash. You must leave the key in the on position for approxamately 10 min. This will reprogram the key to the car. When this problem occurs, it is because the lock cylinder (ignition switch) needs to be replaced.
Remove the 2 screws holding the plastic housing around the steering wheel. Remove the top part of the housing; pull down the bottom part as it does NOT come off. Set your ignition to the RUN position. Push in the tab on the underside of the lock cylinder and pull out the old cylinder. Get your new cylinder & set it to the RUN position (or at least out of the LOCK position). Slide your new cylinder in the way the old one came out. Make sure it locks in correctly.
There will be a pin on the front bottom of the cylinder housing. Turn the key to the on position then push the pin in and pull the cylinder out.
First take off the steering wheel. Next Take the steering colum wheel lock off by removing the snapring. Next take all of the screws out of the blincker/dimmer switch. Then there should be a bolt/screw directly located where the cylinder lock is . Remove it, turn your key into the start position and pull out.
