It is most likely a hose is disconnected. I am not sure about the non turbos, but if you have the digital dash that has the three little push buttons on the dash for distance to empty, and and the mileage reset, etc, then all you have to do to check the thing is hold in the top two buttons at the same time and then turn on the key holding them in for a few seconds then let go of the buttons and the dash will go through a self check mode and each part of the dash will light up one section at a time. Chances are though it is probably just a hose that's not connected.
It can sometimes be caused by a failed alternator.
There should be a heavy wire called the Alternator output wire, It carries power from the alternator to power your accessories and to maintain your battery. The smaller wires usually in a plug are either the alternator's voltage sense, Stator/ACurrent/Tachometer output, regulator/indicator light. or if its an Externaly regulated alternator they will be alternator Field, Stator/ACurrent/Tachometer. hope this helps
Hi the tacho runs off the alternator & when it stops working it is normally a sign of a fault with the alternator so firstly i would check that the alternator is working corectly
The fuse for the tachometer in a Nissan Vanette is typically located in the fuse box, which can be found under the dashboard on the driver's side or in the engine compartment, depending on the model year. To locate the specific fuse, refer to the owner's manual, as it will provide a diagram indicating the exact position and designation of the tachometer fuse. If the fuse is blown, replacing it with one of the same amperage should restore function to the tachometer.
To fix a 12V diesel tachometer, first, check the wiring connections for any loose or damaged wires. Ensure the tachometer is receiving power by testing the voltage at the input terminal. If the connections are intact and powered, inspect the sensor or signal source, typically a magnetic pickup or alternator signal, for proper operation. If these components are functioning but the tachometer still doesn't work, it may need calibration or replacement.
Remove the instrument panel cover. Remove the tachometer retaining screws. Remove the tachometer cable from the back of the tachometer. Reverse the process to install the new tachometer.
you need a tachometer
A ac tach usually works off the AC signal of the alternator on a bus or truck. The alternator produces AC power that is rectified to make DC current to run the car, truck or bus. There is a TACH terminal or in North American buses more than 10 years old it is called a stator tap. The AC voltage changes speed (frequency) with the engine and the Tachometer reads that as a signal Early or inexpensive ones are actually run on the AC current.
The tachometer cable may be faulty. The tachometer sensor, on the side of the engine might not be functioning properly.
The Mazda tachometer and the speedometer have separate cables. The tachometer cable probably does not work properly. Change the tachometer cable.
The tachometer wire on an ECU is typically purple in color.
The tachometer in my car measures the engine's revolutions per minute. The mechanic adjusted the tachometer to ensure the engine was running smoothly. The driver glanced at the tachometer to check if the engine was being pushed too hard.
