The engine coolant temperature sensor or ECT is a sensor on the engine which tells the ECM (engine control module) what the temperature the engine is. Modern engines are fuel injected so they dont have a choke. So they need the engine temperature to set the length of the pulse width (amount of time in milliseconds that the injectors spray fuel) at the injectors.
If the ECT goes bad (open circuit) the computer will think that it is 40 degrees below zero outside all of the time and the car will run very rich. If,on the other hand, the ECT shorts out, then the computer will think it is 384 degrees above zero and the car will run very lean.
The ECT is quite an important sensor on an engine. It is a thermistor. Which means that it changes resistance depending on the temperature.
In summary...the ECT tells the computer what the temperature of the engine is so the computer knows how rich or lean to set the injectors to compensate.
Of course the O2 sensor helps also but, that is another answer altogether.
under intake manifold pass side
There is usually an ECT (engine coolant temp) sensor and a CTS (coolant temp sensor) located around the thermostat housing mounted in the intake. One sends coolant temp to the guage, the other sends temp to computer.
In the 2000 Kia Sephia, the coolant temperature sensor is typically located on the engine block, near the thermostat housing. The coolant temperature heater switch is usually found near the engine's cooling system, sometimes integrated with the thermostat or nearby. For precise locations, it's recommended to consult the vehicle's service manual or a repair guide specific to your model.
Howdy, if you are looking for the engine temp switch(sending unit, it is located on the engine next to the large coolant hose (the hose that is not attached to the pump) on the engine. Just a little above and to the passenger side of the vehicle.
It is located on the left side of the engine between the 6th and 8th cylinder on the block.
where is the temp switch mazda 3 2004 2.3 engine
Engine coolant temp circuit high input. The engine coolant temp sensor make be bad.
On a 1998 Cadillac Catera, the engine coolant temperature switch is typically located near the thermostat housing on the engine. It is usually positioned on the engine block or cylinder head, making it accessible for monitoring coolant temperature. For precise location, refer to the vehicle's service manual or a repair guide, as it can vary slightly based on the specific engine configuration.
that is probably an oil pressure switch that you see. coolant temp sensor is usually near the thermostat in the manifold.
engine coolant temp sensor.
On the 2002 4.3L engine the coolant temp sensor is located on the drivers side cylinder head between the #3 and #5 spark plugs.
If you are looking for the engine coolant temp sensor, it would be on the drivers side of the engine, between spark plugs #3 and #5.
