The Aztecs (or "Mexicas", in the Aztec language) came from the North of what is Mexico, they were nomadic, and when trying to find which place to settle in, the God of War Huitzilopochtli appeared to them in a dream/vision and told them to settle in a place where they would find an eagle eating a snake on top of a nopal (similar to a cactus).
