I have a Ford focus 2001 hatchback and the problem seem to be a short circuit caused by the license plate lights. The fuse is burning when I'm turning the taillights on but if I take the license plate light fixtures out of the body of the car then the taillights are working. I'll try putting electrical tape around the metal parts of the license plate light and see if it's still burn the fuse (number 32, 10 amps).
brake pedal light switch.
The brake light switch is located under the dash. It is connected to the upper arm on the Brake pedal
Perhaps the bulb is bad?
Above the brake pedal. If your main brake lights dont work but your third center brake light does, then the brake light switch is not the problem. Its is the turn signal switch.
Please re-phrase your question; it appears you are saying the brake lights come on when you push the brake pedal and the lights are working (normal operation). If the lights are staying on after you release the pedal, then the problem is with th brake light switch (sticking). Thanks Malcolm
The brake light switch located at the pedal is most likely broken or stuck Did you check the bulb and replace it if required?
Normally that light is an indication there is a problem with the brake system and MOST of the time that is low on brake fluid. There is a possibility (though remote) there is a problem with the switch on the emergency brake pedal.
Could be a short in the brake light switch or a bad bulb.Try removing all of the tail light/brake light bulbs and step on the brake pedal to see if the fuse still blows. If it does it is a brake light switch problem or a short in the wire harness. If not it's a bad bulb.
try your brake light swtich on the brake pedal and check wires
Brake light switches are above the brake pedal
check that the emergency brake pedal is completely up.If ok disconnect the electric cable from the emergency brake pedal. i think is brown in color if light turns off the problem is there.
Sounds like you have a problem with your brake light switch under the dash, mounted on your brake pedal metal arm assembly. I know if I get my head down near the brake pedal and push the pedal with my hand I can hear a loud click noise when the brake lights come on. I'm not a mechanic, but I've wondered if the brake fluid level is down in the master cylinder, does the brake pedal drop enough for the brake light switch to turn on the brake lights ?
