To remove the plastic clips covering the screws on the door handle strap of a 1982 El Camino, you can use a flathead screwdriver or a small trim removal tool. Carefully pry the clips away from the door panel, taking care not to break them. Once the clips are removed, you can access the screws securing the door handle strap. After unscrewing, gently pull the handle strap away from the door.
Just yesterday I replaced the door check on my 07 Eclipse GT: Buy the replacement part (~$35 at the dealer) Tools needed: 10mm socket (w/ 6" extension - a plus), 10mm open-end or box wrench, phillips screwdriver Detach door check end from body frame Remove door panel from door frame, disconnect wire connector from switches Remove speaker from door frame Put arm in speaker hole and hold onto door check, do not allow loose parts (if any) to fall into bottom of door, near-impossible to retrieve. Unbolt door check from door frame, remove from door. Install in reverse order. Recommend not to do final tightening of all door check bolts until both ends have been bolted into position, then tighten the four bolts but do not over-tighten as the threads easily strip.
Door check stop failure is not uncommon on this vehicle. The spring breaks and the unit must be replaced. An after market door stop is about $30 from FCP Groton, a little less from IPD. Genuine Volvo part is about $55 from the dealer. Replacing the part is not difficult.
To effectively secure heavy loads for transportation using a ratchet strap clamp, follow these steps: Place the strap over the load and attach the hooks to anchor points on the vehicle or trailer. Pull the strap tight and engage the ratchet mechanism to tighten the strap further. Make sure the strap is securely fastened and check for any slack or looseness. Double-check the tightness of the strap before transporting the load to ensure it is secure.
